Championship and special classes provide the ability to award extra prizes to competitors. In order to understand which is the best option for your class, it's important to know how each works and the differences between them.
Both championships and special classes cannot be entered by exhibitors. They will have entries that feed into them from other classes. They are used for storing results and for allocating trophies and other prizes.
After they have been created, you will tell the system which classes feed into them.
Championships
Entries are fed into championship classes from other classes based upon their settings. Entries for the championship class are created when the results are saved for each of the classes that feed in. 'Number of qualifying positions' relates to how many placings are fed into the class when those results are saved; '1' position will feed all 1st prizewinners into the championship and '2' positions will feed in, all 1st and 2nd prizewinners. If you are unsure how many positions feed in, select '2'.
Trophies and other prizes can be allocated within the championship. When awarding trophies or prizes they can be allocated either by selecting 'Place' and select the placing to which that prize will be allocated, or by selecting 'Manual' they can be awarded to anybody in the class that meets specific criteria e.g. Bext Exhibitor Bred or Best Local Exhibitor prizes.
Specials
Entries into a special class are created at the point an entry is made into the feed in classes. ALL the entries from those classes feed into a special. These are useful for where an award is made where potential winners may be placed anywhere in the feed in classes e.g. exhibitor-bred or local exhibitor.
Trophies and other prizes can be allocated to prizewinners within the special class.
